Shag Rock was a well known icon of Christchurch City, located on Sumner Beach at the entry to the estuary.
The Christchurch earthquake of 2011 reduced Shag Rock to a pile of rubble. The seismic forces that wrecked havoc throughout Christchurch, also took its toll on the icon.
This painting was created from a photo captured pre-earthquake
. It was photographed during high tide when sea level almost surrounded the rock.
